This website provides public histories of Central Texas. Most are of people and places lesser known. Inspired by my work on the Racial Geography Tour of The University of Texas at Austin, this website travels beyond the 40 acres to interpret local sites and their memory through a racial and gendered lens. You will find institutional and spatial histories as well as those of everyday people. You will also find living projects shaped and grown by ongoing research. Together, the narratives and visuals are designed to reveal power inequities around who and what we recall in the making of this region. Produced with a belief that memory and history build our present, the website hopefully serves as a resource for a more equitable future. Welcome!
